The Role of 3D Models in Design

3D models play an essential role in the design process, communicating scale, form, and materials that sketches often lack. They provide us with an understanding of how an object will feel rather than just how it looks. We're able to assess these models to make decisions and determine how to move forward with a project.

Challenges of Traditional CAD Programs

Given the complexity of traditional CAD programs, creating 3D is not often part of the ideation process. Translating ideas from paper to 3D can be difficult, and takes a great deal of time to accurately capture the proportions and gesture of a sketch. This lengthy process discourages broad exploration, pushing designers towards early decision-making rather than expansive idea exploration.

In Vizcom, your drawing acts as the foundation for generating a 3D model. Once your sketch is rendered, a 3D model can be created in a matter of seconds. By rapidly bridging dimensions, this feature offers immediate feedback on how an idea looks and feels from all angles.

3D can be generated from more than just a sketch. Capturing a well-lit prototype allows Vizcom to reconstruct the geometry and digitize your work. Generating a 3D model is not the end of the iteration process inside Vizcom. Models can be viewed as layers inside Vizcom, allowing you to use it as an underlay to continue sketching and generating new ideas.

We believe these new tools will change the way we design and develop ideas. With the ability to generate 3D from drawings, we hope designers will find themselves liberated to experiment more freely, push the boundaries of creativity, and achieve a deeper understanding of their concepts earlier in the process. Can I use Vizcom for free?
Yes of course! Our starter plan is completely free, no credit card required. This is a great plan to explore Vizcom with.

What payment methods can I use?
We accept all major credit and debit cards.

Which roles are there and which are paid?
Admins (paid) can edit files, manage workspace settings, billing, teams, and invite members. Editors (paid) can edit files but not manage settings, billing, or teams. Viewers (free) can only view files in read-only mode.

How does team billing work?
Team billing is handled centrally by the Admin. All paid seats, whether Admins or Editors, are included in a single invoice under the same billing cycle, while Viewers remain free and do not affect the cost.

Can I change my subscription from monthly to yearly?
Yes, you can. An Admin can update the plan in the billing settings, and the switch will take effect on the next billing cycle at the annual rate.

Do I own the content I produce in Vizcom?
Yes, you own everything you create in Vizcom. For free users, while Vizcom may use generated images to improve its services, it does not claim ownership of your designs, concepts, or original ideas—you keep full rights to them. For paid users, your images and designs remain entirely private and are only used to deliver the service. Every design, concept, and image you create or upload is fully yours and kept confidential.

Does Vizcom use my data to train AI models?
Vizcom does not use your data to train AI models if you’re on a paid plan. Everything you create stays private and is only used to provide the service. Free users may have their generated images included to help improve Vizcom’s services, but even then, Vizcom does not claim ownership of your designs, concepts, or original ideas—you retain full rights.
